Description
Our client is a top-tier retailer with an extensive network of supermarkets and wholesale outlets across Kenya, committed to excellence in supply-chain efficiency and customer service, is looking to hire a hands-on tax accountant to manage day-to-day financial transactions and reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA (K) or ACCA qualification is mandatory.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in tax accounting, preferably in the retail or FMCG sector.
- Experience handling multi-branch operations and familiarity with POS systems and ERP platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage, or Oracle).
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and KRA iTax system.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, Withholding Tax, etc.) in compliance with KRA regulations.
- Ensure timely payment of all tax liabilities and maintain proper documentation and records.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure accuracy of entries in the general ledger.
- Advise management on the tax implications of business operations, including new store openings, promotions, and supplier arrangements.
- Implement strategies for tax efficiency while ensuring full compliance with current tax laws.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and evaluate their impact on the organization.
- Coordinate tax audits and investigations with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
- Respond to tax queries, provide supporting documents, and liaise with tax advisors and legal consultants when necessary.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks across the retail and wholesale business units.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax files, including tax computation schedules and audit trails.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations of VAT, PAYE, and Withholding Tax with financial records.
- Support internal and external audit exercises relating to tax matters.
- Work closely with procurement, payroll, and operations teams to ensure tax treatments (e.g., VAT input/output, withholding tax deductions) are appropriately applied.
- Assist in developing and implementing tax-related policies and controls across stores.
