Description

Are you a qualified Kenyan nurse dreaming of working and living in Ireland? Ireland’s healthcare sector welcomes overseas-trained nurses through structured pathways approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

You can obtain full registration and begin your Irish nursing career through one of the following routes:

1️⃣ Adaptation and Assessment Program

  • On-the-job supervised practice (7–12 weeks) under a preceptor.
  • Alternative to the RCSI Aptitude Test.
  • Requires a confirmed job offer from an approved Irish employer.
  • Many hospitals provide pay, accommodation, and flight support.
  • Successful completion leads to NMBI registration under the Atypical Working Scheme Visa.

2️⃣ Work–Study Program

  • Work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while completing supervised practice and bridging modules.
  • Earn as you learn!
  • Duration varies per applicant and institutional requirements.
  • Leads to full NMBI registration and Irish nursing licensure.

3️⃣ Final-Year Degree Program

  • For nurses whose qualifications need upgrading to Irish standards.
  • Enroll in the final year of an accredited Irish university nursing program.
  • Upon graduation, receive an Irish nursing degree and direct NMBI eligibility.
  • Tuition fees apply, but scholarships and sponsorships may be available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing.
  • Valid Kenyan Nursing License.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Clean criminal record and no prior visa refusals.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 overall or OET Band B equivalent.
  • Job offer from an approved Irish healthcare employer (minimum two-year contract).
  • Work references and academic transcripts.
  • NMBI registration (Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board).
  • RCSI Aptitude Exam completed in Ireland before applying for a work visa in Kenya.
  • EUROCARE registration/administration fee payable.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Participate in supervised practice, adaptation, or academic bridging programs.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and professional integrity under Irish standards.
  • Uphold NMBI’s Code of Conduct and Healthcare Regulations.
  • Complete all required modules, hours, and assessments for licensure.
  • Maintain valid visa and work authorization throughout the placement.
  • Transition into full-time employment as a Registered Nurse in Ireland upon NMBI approval.
