Description

The Real Estate Projects Officer is responsible for coordinating the growth and expansion of the company’s real estate portfolio, focusing on sites across the country. This role is crucial in securing and coordinating the required approvals for site developments, including site builds, change of use applications, and all regulatory compliance activities. The Real Estate Projects Officer will serve as the liaison with county and national regulatory bodies, including NEMA, the Lands Ministry, and local planning authorities, to expedite project timelines and ensure smooth, compliant operations.

Requirements

  • Education: University degree is a plus but not mandatory
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in project management or real estate development, with proven experience in regulatory compliance and working with government agencies.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of Kenyan real estate regulations, project coordination, and government processes. Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Travel: Willingness to spend up to 80% of work time in the field, managing approvals and coordinating with various stakeholders across Kenya.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Site Builds

  • Coordinate the site and build processes, coordinating with internal teams and contractors to maintain adherence to project specifications and timelines.
  • Act as the central point of contact for project updates, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of progress, challenges, and changes.
  • Drive on-site visits and quality checks to monitor project progression, verifying that all activities align with company standards and compliance requirements.

Regulatory Approvals and Compliance

  • Manage all permit and approval processes, including county and national compliance, change of use applications, and land-use permits, ensuring all sites meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain active communication with county and national regulatory bodies as required, submitting applications, following up on pending approvals, and resolving any issues.
  • Ensure all documentation and paperwork are up-to-date and compliant with relevant legal standards to avoid delays and penalties.

Stakeholder Management and Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with county officials, national government bodies, and relevant regulatory authorities to facilitate smooth approval processes.
  • Engage with local communities and officials as needed, ensuring positive interactions that support project approval and implementation.

Field Operations and Reporting

  • Conduct on-site visits to oversee the progress of site builds, managing timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Provide comprehensive, timely reports to the Managing Director on project status, regulatory updates, and anticipated timelines for completion.
  • Identify and resolve any field-related challenges or roadblocks, ensuring timely completion of all site projects.

Process Improvement and Best Practices

  • Identify opportunities to streamline approval and compliance processes, improving efficiency in project delivery.
  • Ensure all project operations align with industry best practices, including environmental standards, regulatory guidelines, and risk management protocols.
  • Continuously seek to implement innovative solutions to minimise project delays, reduce costs, and enhance regulatory compliance
