Description
The PrEP Champion will be responsible for mobilising, mentoring, and providing information and education to adolescent and young women (AGYW) at Mukuru Health Center. The aim is to improve the uptake and continuation of different forms of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) among the target group.
Requirements
- Be an active client on PrEP.
- Have experience as a peer educator or expert client and be a recognised member of the community.
- Possess strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Be an excellent mobiliser with a passion for engaging peers.
- Be non-judgemental, trustworthy, and discreet in all interactions.
- Be available and willing to volunteer time and effort to the project.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of AGYW and their adherence to PrEP.
Responsibilities
- Stay informed on current issues affecting PrEP users.
- Answer basic questions and provide peer support to clients accessing PrEP.
- Actively use PrEP and share experiences to encourage uptake and adherence.
- Serve as a peer educator or expert client, recognised within the community as a PrEP advocate.
- Act as a positive example for PrEP users by demonstrating commitment and adherence to PrEP protocols.
- Mobilise AGYW for PrEP-related activities and sessions.
- Create awareness of PrEP benefits and dispel myths and misconceptions.
- Organise and conduct PrEP support group sessions.
- Facilitate discussions to address concerns, challenges, and success stories among AGYW.
- Maintain a non-judgemental, trustworthy, and discreet demeanour.
- Respect diverse ideas, behaviours, and cultural backgrounds of peers.
- Be a good listener and communicator, showing concern for the well-being of peers.
